Mandi Forman, a Huron native, is the daughter of Tom and Cindy Borkowski.   She is the wife of Rocky Forman and mother to two amazing daughters, Mayli (3) and Remzi (2months).  She was part of the 2001 graduating class of Huron High School.  In 2003, she graduated from Southeast Technical Institute with a degree in Applied Business.  After a brief break, she decided to continue her education and enrolled in National American University, graduating in 2011 at the top of her class and proudly holding a degree in Therapeutic Massage.

Celebrating Area Women: Lori Heller

Lori Heller began attending Stewarts School of Hairstyling in 1985. She really knew that she wanted to go into hairstyling because she really enjoyed making people feel good. Lori graduated from Stewarts in 1986, then went to work for Stewarts as an instructor until 1988. She worked in various salons in Huron and even managed Regis in the mall for a year. She then rented a chair at Shear Dynamics for seven years, before opening her own salon, The Mirror Family Haircare in her home in Wolsey in 1998. “This way I was able to be there for my two beautiful daughters, Caitlin and MiKayla,” she said. In 2015, Lori and her husband decided to move to Huron. She now operates in Huron and this year, she will have done hair for 33 years.

Originally from Redfield, SD, Marla Starr, CFP®, ChFC®, has been helping people make financial decisions for 40 years.  She has been in the Huron community for 22 years and is a self-employed business owner-franchisee with Krause, Starr & Associates, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.  Her team practice has offices in Huron, Mitchell, Aberdeen and Sioux Falls.    Her office is located at 110 Third Str SW Suite #107, Huron, SD.

Judy Stevens and her husband Dean took ownership of Double D Western store in Huron, SD, eleven and half years ago. And they are still married. With a lot of hard work and stretching the envelope, they have continued to expand.  What was once strictly a western footwear and tack retail store, is now a fashion forward unique clothing apparel, footwear, and tack shopping experience.  Judy says “to be successful, one needs to keep moving forward, thinking outside the box.”

Angie Uttecht is a Real Estate Broker and proud owner of Ace Realty in Huron. She is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Since 1994, she has had the privilege of helping hundreds of local buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals. Angie says “There is nothing more exciting than watching a first-time homebuyer achieve their goal of homeownership or nothing more satisfying than selling a families’ home so they can move on to another stage in their life. I believe in giving back and find it difficult to say no when called upon.”

Celebrating Area Women Entrepreneurs This Month! First Up...Ashley Eichstadt!

“A boss, to me, is a confident leader. That’s how I want people to feel when they wear the clothes from my store,” says Ashley Eichstadt, owner of Boss Boutique in Huron. She started the women’s clothing business in 2015 with just three racks of clothes, traveling to vendor fairs. “I was setting up pretty much anywhere that would let me,” she exclaimed. Within one year, Eichstadt felt confident enough to open her own storefront. She thought that since it had been on her heart for some time that she just as well do it. “If you don’t, you’ll always wish you did,” she said. “It is a lot of hard work, but worth it.”

Hear why area residents "Love Local" and share YOUR reasons as well!!

Feel the love! February is the perfect month to celebrate why many residents across the region “love local”. The Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau is encouraging area residents to share their own love local stories. Beginning February 1, there will be a contest on the Huron Chamber’s Facebook page for those willing to “share the love”. One lucky winner will receive a custom designed “love local” t-shirt from PB Sports in Huron, to be given away on Valentine’s day.
