Celebrating Area Women: Lori Heller

Lori Heller began attending Stewarts School of Hairstyling in 1985. She really knew that she wanted to go into hairstyling because she really enjoyed making people feel good. Lori graduated from Stewarts in 1986, then went to work for Stewarts as an instructor until 1988. She worked in various salons in Huron and even managed Regis in the mall for a year. She then rented a chair at Shear Dynamics for seven years, before opening her own salon, The Mirror Family Haircare in her home in Wolsey in 1998. “This way I was able to be there for my two beautiful daughters, Caitlin and MiKayla,” she said. In 2015, Lori and her husband decided to move to Huron. She now operates in Huron and this year, she will have done hair for 33 years.

“I have given my time and talents to a variety of organizations and events,” says Lori. “My favorite organization is the Huron Elks Lodge 444. I have been an officer, board member, and in 2008, I was installed as the first female Exalted Ruler in the history of the Huron Elks Lodge. I have been a leader and a volunteer at various events for the elks, such as, Spring Fling, Cow Pie and many benefits for people in the community and surrounding area in need of help.”

In March of 2001, Lori was diagnosed with cancer, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. After six months of chemotherapy, she was declared cancer free. She is still married to the love of my life, Dale and they have two beautiful daughters, Caitlin who is married to Nick Ekren. They have one little boy named, August and reside in Minnesota. MiKayla is married to Colton Ketelhut and resides in Huron.
