It is the time of year when we get ready to kick off Leadership Huron! Meet the incoming class!
Alex Wheeler was born and raised in Huron where he spent his entire life until attending USD in pursuit of a Finance degree in 2011. In the Fall of 2015 he graduated and started a career in the financial services industry with Waddell and Reed in Sioux Falls. He currently splits his time working between Huron and Sioux Falls.
Mike Pietz, salesman at Iverson Auto lives in Huron with his wife Angela of three years and daughter Ivy. He was born and raised in the Scotland, SD area. Mike comes from a sales background and has been in the automotive sales business for five years. He has worked at a few different Ford dealerships and has a passion for selling vehicles. In his spare time he likes to play sports and enjoy the outdoors when time permits. Mike served in the United States Navy from 2008-2012 as a Master at Arms (Military Police).
Jace Jungemann currently resides in Huron with his wife Kristy and two year old son, Kellan. He works for Thrivent Financial as a Financial Advisor. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree with an emphasis in Music Business in 2008 at Minnesota State University Moorhead. In 2013 he completed his Master’s in Business Administration at Ashland University. He is also on the committee for Huron Young Professionals. When he isn’t working or spending time with the family, he is busy playing guitar for the Black Water Band.
Alyssa Kirk moved to Huron in September 2016 from her hometown of Balaton, Minnesota. She is a 2006 graduate of Tracy-Milroy-Balaton High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Dakota State University in 2010. While attending college, she was a member of the women’s basketball program. She’s currently the Client Associate at Avail Wealth Management LLC.
Being a new face in the community, Alyssa is excited to start getting involved in the community, develop relationships and enjoy what Huron & South Dakota has to offer. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, camping, hiking, and watching/attending sporting events (any Minnesota team is her favorite).
Sherri Hunter works for Allen Credit and Debt Counseling as a Compliance and Finance Officer, before this position she ran a state registered daycare for 9 years. Sherri has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Marketing and will begin the Master’s in Business Administration this Fall. Sherri has 2 daughters, Kaitlynn, 13 and Brooke, 9, and one son, Jacob, 12; and is married to Travis Hunter who works at Our Home as a Group Leader. Sherri enjoys many passions outside of work, to include, running with her dog Max, hiking, weightlifting in her downstairs gym, playing tennis with her family, gardening, listening to audiobooks, traveling and many other fun crafts!
Jenifer Morales is a personal banker at First National Bank. She is also an intercultural primary education teacher having graduated from "Blessing" school in Guatemala in 2005. She has had one year of preparation in the English language at "MAES" Modern American English School also in Guatemala.
Jenifer emigrated from Guatemala to Huron on December 31, 2006. She worked at LSI in Alpena for a year and then from December 2007 to September 2016 she worked for a different financial institution as a teller and a personal banker representative. In January 2017 she joined the First National Bank team as a Personal Banker. She participated and enjoyed sharing her knowledge to 5th grade children through the Junior Achievement program for the last three years. Jennifer is happily married to Julio Morales and together they raise two beautiful children; Ana 7 years old and James one year and a half.
They enjoy spending time with family and sharing hope and opportunity.
Katie Brech is a radiologic technologist at Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC). Katie received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Marty College in 2010. She began working at the Lincoln Regional Center in Lincoln, NE after college until 2012 when she decided to go back to school at Mitchell Technical Institute where she received her Associate of Applied Science degree in 2014. Katie started her professional career in Martin, SD as the director of medical imaging at Bennett County Hospital until she moved to Huron in April 2016 for her current position at HRMC.
Shane Milne was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church. He has pastored in churches in Oregon and in South Dakota. He is currently the Lead Pastor of Reclaimed Church in Huron, South Dakota. Shane has a B.A. of Ministry from Kingswood University in Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada. He is married (Chyan) and has four kids (Jude, Gideon, Abigail, and Grace).
Nancy grew up in a tiny town in north central Nebraska called Springview, that is exactly 4 blocks long and 4 blocks wide. Her graduating high school class was only 26 students and the town boasted a population of 360 people. Nancy spent 18 years running the streets of this small town and then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to attend the University of Nebraska – Lincoln where the population in her dorm was more than the population of the entire county where she grew up. She graduated 4 years later from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Nancy has spent 20 years working in accounting. She worked 15 years in public accounting and 5 years working in private accounting for International Game Technology in Reno, Nevada. Nancy recently left the field of accounting and joined the banking industry. In April, Nancy joined the Real Estate Loan department at Dakotaland Federal Credit Union as Real Estate Loan Originator. She is proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks!
When Nancy isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her family. She is married to Stan and has two children, Zachary (20) and Jessica (18). She also enjoys reading, playing piano, hiking (whenever she makes it to the Hills), and shopping! Now that Nancy’s children are mostly independent, Stan and Nancy are anxious to begin their lifelong desire to travel! Plans are being made to travel to Europe, Israel and the east coast of the United States!
Katelin Albers is originally from Apple Valley, MN and recently moved to Huron in the spring of 2017. She completed her undergraduate studies at Winona State University in Winona, MN and received her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry, graduating with honors in 2016. She currently works as an optometrist at the Huron Eye Clinic and enjoys providing eye care to the community. When she's not working, Katelin enjoys spending her free time reading, watching and attending Minnesota Wild hockey games, and spending time with family and friends. She is very excited to become more involved in the community through Leadership Huron!
Lacey Burton is the Assistant VP of Real Estate Lending at Dakotaland Federal Credit Union. She graduated from Northern State University in December of 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Financial Services. After graduation, Lacey worked as a loan processor at a local bank before starting at Dakotaland Federal Credit Union in December of 2011. She began as a Real Estate Loan Processor and then moved to a Loan Officer, Loan Originator and now is Assistant VP. Lacey lives west of Hitchcock with her husband, Dallas and their two children Eastlyn (6) and Dayson (2 ½). She and her family are active members of the Bonilla Presbyterian Church in Bonilla. When she isn’t running her daughter to dance, tball etc. she enjoys spending time outdoors, on the farm with her family, dirt track racing (mainly sprint cars), and visiting her parents and siblings in Madison, SD.
Leah Gosch is from Rapid City, SD and went to school for electrical engineering at South Dakota State University. She graduated from SDSU in the Spring of May 2017, and moved to Huron, SD to be an electrical engineer for Banner Engineering. Through her years living in Rapid City and in Brookings she volunteered for New Friends, and she helped campaign for political parties. New Friends is an organization that spends time and provides entertainment, classes, and meals to the mentally challenged. She also enjoys playing various sports, such as, softball, flag football and basketball. This summer in Huron she was on a coed softball team, kickball team, and is looking forward to Leadership Huron to continue meeting new people and learning more about the community.
Eric (Bazyn) was born in 1990 in the town of Norfolk, Nebraska where he resided till 2009. He attended South Dakota State University, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in 2014. After graduation he moved to Bismarck, North Dakota and worked as a wildlife biologist for a consulting company called Tetra Tech. In March of this year, Eric moved to Huron, and now is an insurance agent at Heartland Financial Services, Inc. Eric is excited to be a part of a great community. On his time off Eric enjoys golfing, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors.
Nathan Hofer is a Huron native and a graduate from Huron High School. He spent his elementary and middle school years attending James Valley Christian School and transferred as a sophomore. He is the son of Melissa Hofer who is the current CFO of Community Counseling Services. Along with is family Nathan is a big supporter of several volunteer organizations in town including the Salvation Army and the Jan Manolis Family Safe Center. Nathan is an avid outdoorsman who loves to hunt and fish with his grandfather Wayne Hofer. In their adventures, Nathan developed a love of trapshooting and went on to become a 4 time ATA All-American team captain. Nathan is an employee at Dakota Provisions in the Human Resource office, and will be the personal manager at there new Dakota Provisions West location.
Ruth Anne F. Hanson is excited to be back in Huron, SD, the town she grew-up in, and working for American Bank & Trust. Her husband, Ross Boone, is working for CenturyLink in Huron too. Returning to her roots of South Dakota, where her ancestors homesteaded, has been a blessing as she has the opportunity to spend time with her parents Clarence Hanson (retired Western Area Power Administration) and Judy Hanson (Huron’s first Hospice Coordinator and retired Registered Nurse). Ruth Anne holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Accountancy and a Banking and Financial Services Degree from Northern State University. Her work experience is predominantly in the banking, accounting, and auditing fields. Ruth Anne also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from South Dakota State University where she gained experience in Precision Agriculture and also worked at the USGS EROS Data Center utilizing Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System technologies. Ruth Anne is a past board member of the Collie Rescue Foundation and has been active in Business Professional Women. Ruth Anne and her husband Ross enjoy spending time with family and friends. They work with their rough coat collie for conformation, rally, agility, and obedience and are members of the Collie Club of America. Ruth Anne and Ross spend spare time camping, fishing, shooting, and enjoying the outdoors. They have had the opportunity to tent camp in or near several of the National Parks to experience the amazing beauty the park system has to offer.
Tarryn has lived in Huron most of her life. She graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has been employed at Huron Regional Medical Center since 2010, and works as a registered nurse in the surgery department. Tarryn is married with two sons, Oakley (4) and Audi (2). Her hobbies include spending time with her family, being outside, reading, running and DIY projects.
Emma (Smith) Jungemann is a 24 year old native to Huron, South Dakota. She graduated in 2011 from Huron High School and in 2015 she graduated from the University of South Dakota with Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree. She works as a registered nurse at Horizon Healthcare in Huron. She married Jon Jungemann in October 2016. Together they have two little dogs, Charlie and Ty. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church where she is involved in the praise team, and also owns her own portrait and wedding photography business, Emma Christine Photography.
