Celebrating Area Women: Mary Pearson

Mary A. Pearson is a lifelong resident of Huron.  She was married for 36 years until her husband passed away in 2009.  Mary has two children and three grandchildren.  She graduated from Huron High School in 1968 and has been a businesswoman for 47 years, currently serving as President of Northwest Pipe Fittings in Huron and Pierre.  Mary was also mayor for the City of Huron from 1998 – 2006 and sponsor of the Mayor’s Junior Leadership Program.

Her awards include 1995 Noon LaSertoman of the Year, 2004 Sertoman of The Year, 2005 District Sertoman of the Year, 2003 Business & Professional Woman of the Year, 1999 American Hometown Leadership Award and featured in “Eyes On You Magazine” for making a difference in my community.  I was selected as the 2013 Distinguished Civic Service Award recipient and the 2016 SHE Community & Humanitarian Award.

Mary served as past chairperson on several different committees for The Congregational United Church of Christ, Past President of Huron Area Chamber of Commerce, Beadle County Humane Society, Huron Joint City/County Planning Commission, Downtown Parking Taskforce, United Way, Greater Huron Development Corporation, Huron Kids Voting, secretary/treasurer of SD Wholesalers Association and Co-Founder of Wheel Jam.

She is currently serving as the secretary and grant committee chairperson for the Huron Community Foundation, Treasurer for Friends of the Library, Chairperson of The Business Improvement District, member of the Backpack Advisory Board, President of The Jan Manolis Family Safe Center, Spirit of Dakota Award Society Board Member and the Alternate Board of Adjustments for the City of Huron.
